AFA Antioxidant Clay Chemical Peel

The AFA Clay Peel™ is the optimal two-step treatment to significantly improve the appearance of your skin. This advanced skin care formula works best with skin types: normal, combination, oily and acne-prone. Before applying the AFA Clay Peel™, your face will be thoroughly cleansed and dried to remove surface impurities and to prepare your skin for the first application of the AFA Mask.

Step One:

The AFA Clay Mask is applied in a thin layer and left on for approximately 5 minutes, then gently removed  with water. This rare earth (clay) Mask treatment draws impurities and opens up the pores in the skin. It promotes cell turnover by exfoliating the skin and removing the top layer of dead skin cells. This prepares your skin to get the maximum benefits out of the peel.

Step Two:

The AFA Gel Peel is applied to your face for 2-5 minutes, then rinsed off to reveal clearer, smoother and brighter skin.

AFA Clay Peel exfoliates and detoxes your skin gently unlike other peels. A series of 4-6 treatments is usually recommended to achieve significant improvements and optimal results. Using the AFA home care products between treatments will help these improvements occur more rapidly, and they can be used after the series of treatments to maintain the results.

What do treatments feel like?

Peels are a quick in and out treatment unless added to another treatment. The skin is cleansed followed by the application of the peel which only stays on the skin for a few minutes, it will slowly start to feel warm followed by a sort of prickly sensation. This can be mildly uncomfortable but only lasts a short time before being removed and is managed by your medical aesthetician. The treatment is followed by an application of a soothing cooling serum and mineral SPF.

When should I expect results?

A series of peels is best, however you will see results after just one. Depending on what skin concern you are treating, your medical aesthetician can determine approximately how many treatments you will need. Be sure to wear mineral SPF 30 (or higher) before and after treatment. SPF use ensures that the delicate new skin is being protected and will help you maintain your treatment results. If you choose not to wear a mineral SPF, we cannot guarantee results or effectiveness of the chemical peel.

Pre & Post Treatment

Please show up to your appointment with clean skin. Excessive make-up or product may take longer to cleanse and remove, which will cut into your treatment time. Please check that the contraindications do not apply to you. Necklaces and earrings will have to be removed during the treatment. Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 2 weeks prior to treatment. Avoid the use of retinol products and high levels of AHA and BHA products for approximately 7-10 days prior to treatment.

Aerobic exercise or physical activity should be avoided until all or any redness has subsided (2-5 days). Direct sunlight exposure is to be completely avoided immediately following the treatment (including any strong UV light exposure and tanning beds). If some sun exposure cannot be avoided apply a mineral sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or greater. Your aesthetician will finish your treatment with a mineral SPF, but make sure to reapply every 2 hours. Do not cleanse the skin the evening of your treatment. For the following days, you can cleanse your face with water or a gentle cleanser followed by moisturizer and SPF. Do not pick any flaking skin.  Results are also heavily influenced by the skin care products you are using at home. Ask your aesthetician for product recommendation at the spa. Results are noticeable with 1 peel, but for best results AFA chemical peels are done in a series of 4 sessions. Do not undergo an exfoliating treatment within 2-4 weeks following your treatment. Do not apply a cold compress on the area. No swimming, hot tubs, steam rooms, saunas, or hot showers for 48 hours post peel.
