Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is quickly revolutionizing hair removal standards. It has, with good reason, become the most effective and trusted way to remove hair permanently.

A few things to know about laser hair removal:

  • It requires a series of treatments to ensure that the hair follicle is damaged to prevent regrowth
  • It is non-invasive and painless
  • It is very quick, clients are in an out, depending on the surface area
  • It is proven effective and safe, as we only use the industry’s leading technology: GentleMax Pro by Syneron Candela
  • There is no downtime, after treatment clients can return to their normal activities right away
  • It is safe for all skin types, tones and colours.
Before After

How It Works:

The Gentlemax Pro laser targets the hair follicle at the very root. The laser energy is delivered to the skin, which provides therapeutic heat which is then delivered through the layers of the skin to the hair follicle. In doing this, over a number of treatments, the follicle is destroyed and future hair regrowth is inhibited. To maximize comfort to the client, there is a Dynamic Cooling Device which provides cooling cryogen to the treated area. This allows the laser hair removal treatment to be less painful, less invasive, and without the need for any downtime.

What To Expect:

The GentleMax Pro laser by Candela is the latest device in laser hair removal technology. We do not need to use any gel to cool the skin during your sessions. The bursts of cooling cryogen during your sessions help eliminate the extra time it takes to finish the treatment, as well as maximize comfort. Each appointment is completed effectively and efficiently so that you can continue with the rest of your day as soon as possible! We offer Aloe and a 1% hydrocortisone cream after each session to minimize any irritation and soothe the skin before you leave.

FAQ
  1. Avoid the sun 4-6 weeks before the treatment, Epidermal melanocytes compete with melanin in the hair. Laser Hair Removal CANNOT be performed on tanned skin!
  2. Your medical aesthetician may ask you to stop any topical medications or skin care products 3-5 days prior to the treatment.
  3. You MUST avoid bleaching, plucking or waxing the areas to be treated 4-6 weeks prior to your treatment. The melanin-containing hair must be present in the follicle as it is the “target” for the laser light.
  4. If you have/had a history of peri-oral or genital herpes simplex virus, advise your technician before the treatment.
  5. If you have had Botox or filler injections on the treatment site, you will have to wait approximately 14 days before scheduling an appointment.
  6. RECENTLY TANNED SKIN CANNOT BE TREATED! If treated within 2 weeks of active (natural sunlight or tanning booth) tanning, you may develop hypopigmentation (white spots) after treatment and this may not clear for 2-3 months or more.
  7. The use of self-tanning skin products must be discontinued 1 week before treatment. Any residual self-tanner should be removed prior to treatment.
  8. Stop use of skincare with any active ingredients 3-5 days before your appointment. (i.e. retinol, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid, benzoyl peroxide, etc.).
  9. Make sure your skin is clean and free from any makeup, moisturizers or cream before your session. Avoid deodorant before and after if treating the underarms. We provide wipes in the treatment room as well for your convenience.

You must arrive shaved before your laser hair removal appointment. The closer you shave to the time of your appointment, the more you risk any irritation. Anywhere from 4-24 hours before your treatment is ideal.

  • Immediately after the treatment, there should be erythema (redness) and edema (swelling) of each hair follicle in the treatment site, which may last up to 2 hours, or longer. The erythema may last up to 2-3 days. The treated area will feel like a sunburn for a few hours after the treatment.
  • Your technician may suggest that you use the aloe or hydrocortisone cream provided to ensure maximum comfort post treatment. You can also use your own soothing creams/gels at home for the following days to soothe the skin.
  • Makeup may be used after the treatment as long as the skin is not irritated.
  • Avoid sun exposure for 1-2 weeks to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation.
  • Apply SPF at all times throughout the course of your treatments (SPF 30+).
  • Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin. Do not use any other hair removal treatment products or similar treatments (waxing, electrolysis or tweezing) that will disturb the hair follicle in the treatment area. Shaving may be used.
  • Anywhere from 5-14 days after the treatment, shedding of the treated hair may occur and this appears as new hair growth. This is NOT new hair growth. You can clean and remove the hair by washing or wiping the area with a wet cloth or loofah sponge.
  • After the axilla (underarms) is treated, you may wish to use a powder instead of a deodorant for 24 hours after the treatment to reduce skin irritation.
  • When treating the face, stop use of all skincare that has active ingredients for the first 3-5 days to reduce any adverse reactions.
  • Avoid hot showers, saunas, hot tubs, swimming and strenuous sports/exercise for 2-3 days following your treatment. Your skin will have retained a lot of heat during your treatment, so you must avoid these things to keep your skin from getting irritated.
  • After each session, you should be noticing less and less growth, thinning of the hairs and patchiness in the treatment sites.
  • Always feel free to call us at 905.682.6688 if you have any questions or concerns.

The number of treatments that an individual requires for laser hair removal depends on ethnicity, skin colour, coarseness of hair, and the area being treated. However, results are often immediate and appear as soon as after the first or second session. Ideal results can be seen anywhere from 6-10 treatments.

During your initial consecutive sessions, we will schedule your appointments according to the areas being treated. These can range from 4-6 weeks and up to 8-10 weeks. Also note, this will look different once you are doing maintenance (see next FAQ below). We will make sure we are scheduling your appointments at the optimal time to ensure best results!

  • Laser Hair Removal is not a “one and done” type of treatment. After the duration of your packages/sessions, you will need to plan for maintenance to protect your investment and keep your desired results. The time frame varies from person to person. Once desired results are achieved, many people return annually for 1-2 maintenance sessions. While in the maintenance phase after getting laser hair removal, you may notice there are times when hair growth seems to be more aggressive. This is the ideal time to get a touch-up session, as the active growth phase is most effectively targeted.
  • We have maintenance plans that are customizable to accommodate your specific needs!

  • If you do not arrive shaved to your appointment, we are more than happy to offer shaving for you. Please note, there will be a surcharge added to the cost of your appointment. This ranges from $10-$25.
  • If you choose to opt out of this, we will have to cancel your appointment which will result in a cancellation fee.

  • Yes! You can definitely still get lasered when you are on your period. However, you may experience heightened sensitivity during your cycle or even the week leading up during PMS. A Brazilian laser treatment can also be done during your period, just ensure you are wearing a tampon.
  • If you would rather cancel your upcoming appointment to make sure you are not on your period, please respect our cancellation policy and give us 48 hour notice so that we can reschedule you.
  • You can still undergo laser hair removal in the summer months if a). The treatment sites ARE NOT exposed to the sun, (i.e. Brazilian + underarms) or b). You are not tanned or are totally avoiding sun exposure in those areas. Even the slightest change in skin colour can have a negative affect on your treatment and ultimately, it is not safe to perform. Depending on which areas you are treating, we will make a plan to either continue or take a break during the summer months. This will be up to your technician.
  • Yes! Although complete laser hair-removal treatment can require 6 or more sessions, clients often experience a reduction in the incidence of ingrown hairs—pseudofolliculitis—with as little as 1 treatment. Ingrown hair is usually the result of traditional hair-removal techniques, such as shaving, waxing, and plucking. For women, ingrown hair usually occurs at the bikini line, armpits, inner thighs, and Brazilian area. For men, ingrown hair is common on the chin and neck, and is often referred to as “razor bumps.”
  • Aside from its unsightly appearance and discomfort, ingrown hair is not usually a health concern. However, when you attempt to remove it using tweezers, the hair follicle can become infected and painful, and you may require medical attention. To avoid this outcome, we highly recommend laser hair-removal treatment.

  • We do not treat clients during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Our primary concern is both for your health, and for that of your unborn child. In addition, we consider the hormonal changes that you will go through during your pregnancy and breastfeeding —changes that sometimes involve hair growth and skin pigmentation. We are happy to treat you after the safe arrival of your baby and when hormone levels are back to normal!
